Before the World Ends...

I want to give you
a school of your own,
where you can teach wonder,
the way you’ve taught me.

I want to give you
a grand library,
to get lost in,
and author your way back.

I want to give you
safety,
security,
peace.
In your soul.

I want to give you
all the things I never had,
and all the things
you never thought to ask for.

I want to give you
a place where your name
isn’t whispered in hiding,
but shines safely in lights.

I miss you
like a song misses lyrics,
like a hummingbird,
misses flight.

I love you
like the sunflower loves the sun,
yearning in the dark,
blooming in the light.

And when we speak,
thirty years come rushing back,
as if not a single day
had ever been missed.

But if the world must end,
I hope it ends
with me
still
reaching
for you.
